MAC - Lustre lipstick in Flamingo

Yes, it's another MAC review. I told you I was obsessed at the moment, and I'm ashamed to say no other lipstick has graced my lips for over two weeks. Now that's saying something because even though I'm not promiscuous in the slightest, I definitely am with lipsticks.

I picked up Flamingo on a recent shopping trip to Guildford. I tasked my friend to choose three colours for me and after saying no to the first twenty (because I already owned them), I finally said yes to Flamingo!

Think of a sweet, soft coral pink when you think of Flamingo. A beautiful glossy colour, this sugary shade has been a cult favourite for a while, and you can see why. Its perfect blend of cool and warm is bound to suit most skin tones, and the fact that it's a shy pink makes it ideal for everyday wear.

It's been a while since I've purchased a MAC Lustre lipstick. After the phenomena that is 'matte', I think the world has forgotten how sublime creamy textures really are. One swipe and I forgot why matte is so massive.

Lustre is so wearable as a texture. It's soft, illuminating and comfortable. If you like softer pinks but want something slightly glossier for Summer, Flamingo will run your roost!

Colour Intensity: low to medium

Finish: Lustre - glossy look

Overall Rating: 5/5 - top marks from me!

You'll like this is: you are looking for a pinkier/softer shade of MAC's Little Buddha and Costa Chic

Perfect for: fair skin tones / the summer / beach life / everyday wear... The list goes on

Avoid: if you're looking for something bright

MAC - Retro Matte lipstick in Relentlessly Red

I like to think of Relentlessly Red as Ruby Woo's little sister. Same opaque laydown, both have bright, vivid colour, and just like its much loved sibling, Relentlessly Red is really coming to its own. It seems that this colour is celebrated so much from blog to blog that I do wonder whether one day it will be just as much of a global phenomenon as Ruby Woo itself.

When I first took off the lid and twisted the tube, this lipstick left me a little perplexed. The name clearly states "red" but the actual colour has much more of a pink tone. It's a bit like a cherry pink has got caught in the mixture of a classic red to churn out this hue.

Trying it on was a different story. The off-red looks amazing against my fair skin. It's strong enough to be a real statement, but the dose of pink makes this so much more approachable. It's a happy red. The more mellow of the reds, which means you can get away with wearing this everyday if you wanted to.

If you love the texture of MAC's mattes, then Retro Matte will be a shock to the system. Unlike regular mattes which glide on beautifully, Retro Mattes need a lip balm base. Its tough texture isn't for everyone, but once it's on, it won't let you down.

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: Retro Matte - no gloss

Overall Rating: 4/5 - a beautiful colour but tough to get off

You'll like this if: you want a bit of a break from Ruby Woo

Perfect for: staying put all day / nights out / cocktails with the girls

Avoid: if you're on a date! Kissing with this on is messy - trust me!!!

MAC - Matte lipstick in Silly

It's official! MAC create the best mattes out there. Any other brand that claims to be more matte than MAC (Avon, I'm looking at you) have got it wrong. MAC's matte is the ideal mix of semi velvet - glorious, stay-put power without the cement mixture texture.

I am currently obsessed, and Silly is my favourite new matte addition.

This bright, girly pink is an ideal matte for Summer. It's punchy pink with a blue undertone so the colour will really pop against cool skin tones. It may look a little bit Pat Butcher (Americans, google it!) on more sallow tones, but if you want to create a Barbie doll look, this is the MAC matte for you.

Silly has great lasting power, so if you need a low maintanence lippy, go for this.m

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: matte

Overall Rating: 3/5 - it's not an everyday colour

You'll like this if: you love bright pinks

Perfect for: 80s inspired look / summer days / with a subtle make-up look

Avoid: at the office / on the Eastenders set

MAC - Cremesheen lipstick in Little Buddha

How did I buy this beautiful lipstick two months ago and have only just tried it??? Ok, so I'm having a bit of a lipstick love affair with MAC at the moment, which is why so many of my posts will be MAC related. If you're not a MAC fan, I would turn away now. And possibly forever because we can never be friends.

So let's talk about Little Buddha.

Created as a stunning coral pink, Little Buddha may sound small, but it's pretty mighty. One glaze of this summery shade and my lips popped with colour. A few more swipes and they were practically flourescent.

Made in MAC's signature Cremesheen, Little Buddha is rich, creamy and very moisturising. It actually feels very comfortable having this on my lips. I was a little surprised that the colour comes off so much more pink than it looks on the stick, but with the sunny weather, this made it even more beautiful.

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: Cremesheen - creamy, full bodied

Overall Rating: 5/5

You'll like this if: you want a bouncy, flirty pinky coral

Perfect for: summer days / picnics / sunny weekends

Don't wear: at work - not an office-friendly colour. Unless you work at MAC. Or Crayola.

MAC - Frost lipstick in Tanarama

I know Tanarama has been in the Mac lipstick library for a while, but even if you already have it, the Vibe Tribe packaging is reason enough to get it.

In the Frost finish, Tanarama is practically a melted gold bar. It's not exactly an everyday shade, but dab on when on holiday or with a golden tan and it will make you look like a bronzed goddess.

Despite the shimmer, this is very smooth and creamy and gives a beautiful layer of tanned gold.

If, like me, you feel that Tanarama isn't suitable for everyday, try using it with another lip colour. I applied a layer of this on top of MAC's Crosswires for a dazzling summer coral.

Colour Intensity: low, but shimmer is high

Finish: Frost - high shine

Overall Rating: 3/5 - it's nice, but a lot of work goes into it to make it practical

You'll like this if: you have tanned skin. The gold will really pop

Perfect for: pool-side glamour / at the beach / on top of another lipstick

Beauty - The Best Lip Balms

Your lipstick will never look as good as when your lips are nourished, soft and supple, so I thought I would share with you my top lip balms that I cannot do without. They are all different and vary in price, so there should be something here for everyone.

Best Lip Balm for Lip Plumping

Rodial Glam Balm Lip - £19 RRP

Rodial is known for its amazing skin care range, but if you like its luxury skin care, the Glam Balm Lip is a must-try. Unlike so many other plumping balms and glosses that leave that uncomfortable tingle, this lip drenching treatment gives you a natural pout, without that annoying sting on your lips.

The texture is very similar to petroleum jelly so if you like the texture of Vaseline but with lots more goodness, then this is the lip balm for you.

Best Scented Lip Balm

The Body Shop Honeymania Lip Balm - £4 RRP

I really love going to The Body Shop because it feels like a dreamy pick n' mix place of scents! It's always a glorious experience, and the lip balms and butters are no exception. Over the years, my dressing table has never been without a lip balm from this place - the scent may be different each time but no matter what I always end up lavishing my lips with a Body Shop lip balm.

My current favourite is Honeymania. If you like sweet treats, your lips will love you for using this. It has a gorgeous fragrance, drenches thirst-quenched lips, and is very purse-friendly too. Brilliant!

Best Luxury Lip Balm

By Terry Buame de Rose Nutri-Couleur in Cherry Bomb - £35.50 RRP

I have reviewed this little beauty on here before, so if you want to see the full review, you can find it here - http://lipstickdatabase.blogspot.co.uk/2015/08/byterry-baume-de-rose-in-cherry-bomb.html

Okay, so it's definitely on the spenny side for a lip balm, but as you may have noticed in the blogosphere, you can never go wrong with By Terry products.

Baume de Rose coloured lip balms come in an array of different shades, so if Cherry Bomb is a little too bright for you, you can always opt for Rosy Babe or Mandarina.

As well as the amazing colour, this lipstick has a great scent and is filled with goodness so it will sort out neglected lips instantly.

Best Organic Lip Balm

EOS Evolution of Smooth Lip Balm in Honeysuckle - £6.50 RRP

It's hard not to come across EOS lip balms these days. Stretching outside of drugstores, you can happily find these little coloured pods in Topshop, River Island and so many other high street stores.

The great thing is that EOS balms are 100% natural so you can rely on these beauties to take care of your lips.

My favourite is Honeysuckle, but they come in so many different flavours that you'll undoubtedly find something you'll love. It's also very affordable. Win!

Best Tinted Lip Balm

Rituals La Vie En Rose Smooth Colour Gloss in Pale Pink - £8.50 RRP

I have only recently found Rituals and among their lovely body products lie a few lip treats too. I adore this one because it's effortless, conditions your lips and leaves behind a lovely subtle colour.

The shade is actually more of a nude than a pink and it's designed to enhance your natural lip colour. This reminds me a lot of Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfectors, but without the hefty price tag.

If you like glossy balms, then this is the one for you.

Best for Chapped Lips

Evelom Kiss Mix - £16 RRP

If your lips have been feeling neglected at the moment and are past the point of no return, then Evelom's Kiss Mix is the lip balm for you. I have sworn by this for so many years. It has got me through many cold winters and my lips are very grateful for it.

Kiss Mix feels medicated - it has that gentle menthol kick, is very creamy and rich and within hours banishes dry flakes leaving behind baby soft lips.

This is one to keep by your bedside and indulge your lips with each night so that you wake up with the perfect pout.

Best for Sun Protection

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula Original - £1.99 RRP

As well as being perfect for those coin-conscious girls among us, Palmer's Cocoa Butter lip balm has SPF 15 so it's ideal for the Summer. We all know how important it is to protect our skin from the sun, but we never consider lips to fall into this category too. Now, you can have beautifully nourished lips while protecting them from sun damage. It smells pretty great as well!

Best "All Rounder" Lip Balm

By Terry Baume de Rose - £39 RRP

It's a very luxury purchase, but I have stuck by the lip balm for years and have no desire to switch any time soon. This is creamy, beautifully fragranced and is a great base for lipsticks.

I bought this a year ago and despite using it almost every day, there's till plenty left in the pot so the investment was worth every penny.

MAC - Matte lipstick in Arrowhead

My latest MAC lipstick comes from the Vibe Tribe collection which is possibly my favourite MAC packaging yet. The tribal pattern is what made me purchase this colour, as it's not quite my shade.

I'm not a fan of Tip-Ex lips. I love nudes but I like nudes to enhance your lips, compliment your skin tone and to generally make you look like you're still breathing. Whilst Arrowhead is a beautiful rosie pebble shade, it's a colour I'll most likely select for my kitchen tiles then for my Saturday night make-up look. There are alabaster skin tones out there where this colour would look divine, but despite being very fair, Arrowhead makes me look like I've been dead for three days.

If you're using this as part of a 60s look, then this colour is ideal. Otherwise, it's an acquired taste.

Arrowhead has a matte finish, so the lay-down is brilliant, long lasting and comfortable. For this, it gets top marks from me.

Colour Intensity: low

Finish: matte

Overall Rating: 3/5 - not the colour for me but 5/5 on texture and Vibe Tribe packaging

You'll like this if: you're channeling a 60s inspired look

Perfect for: a 60s party / looking like a ghost (no joke!) / pale pale pale skin tones

MAC - Cremesheen lipstick in Dozen Carnations

I wore this rich orange today and got so many compliments! I was actually surprised because it's been a while since I've worn a lipstick that has turned so many heads, but I guess the sunshine brings the best in this colour.

Dozen Carnations is a beautiful, full of beams orange that is an ideal colour for the summer. The moisturising Cremesheen formula is speckled with tiny iridescent glitter to maximise the colour against our glorious English sunshine.

Only a few swipes were needed to get the energising tone, and although it's very creamy once on, the texture is light and not distracting.

Despite my enormous collection of lipsticks, MAC is always a go-to brand. It's not so high end that you should shy away from it, but if your tightening your purse strings at the thought of it, I think it's time to start loosening them slightly. At roughly £15.50 per bullet, MAC lipsticks are definitely worth it.

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: creamy, moisturising, shine

Overall Rating: 4/5

You'll like this if: you want a stunning reddy orange

Perfect for: wearing with Nars Copacabana highlighter, date night, parties, summer strolls

Lipstick Queen - Frog Prince Lip Gloss

After the wonder of the lipstick version of Frog Prince - review found here http://lipstickdatabase.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/lipstick-queen-frog-prince.html - I'm so glad Lipstick Queen have decided to make this a collection. What's even more exciting is that for the first time ever, the lip mogul has ventured outside of its comfort zone and has created its first blush, all in the magical Frog Prince formula.

Inspired by one of the best known fairytales, the collection is a magical transformation, just like its name sake. The stunning emerald green reacts to your lips pH balance and transforms into your very own version of a beautiful rose bud pink.

The epitome gloss of showing you that you shouldn't believe everything you see has launched a year after its lipstick counterpart took the world by storm and was a sell-out in so many stores. I think this will be even more popular with its dazzling green flecks effect that add another dimension to your look.

What's even more impressive is that this enchanting gloss contains a load of lip treats to soothe and transform as well as looking show-stoppingly stunning. It contains natural oils, Shea butter and Maxi-lip, a natural protein that gives you a plumper pout. Amazing!

Now let's talk about the blush. If you're a follower of this blog you will know that I'm a huge Lipstick Queen fan, so you can imagine my utter excitement when I heard a beautiful cheek tint would be joining the collection.

When you open up the pink compact, the green is hard to avoid, but as soon as on your skin, you will notice it quickly transform to a graceful pink.

My only advice is to not overload it. Like all tints it's very difficult to undo, so make sure you have some colour corrector at hand.

Colour Intensity: medium

Finish: gloss

Overall Rating: 5/5 - it really is magical!

You'll like this if: you like the element of surprise

Perfect for: all occasions. You can't go wrong with products that convert to your very own perfect pink shade!

Urban Decay - Gwen Stefani lipstick in Rock Steady

If you could grab the juiciest, yummiest cherry and bottle it in a little lipstick bullet, Gwen Stefani's Rock Steady is what would happen.

A stunning, deep red, Rock Steady was made to claim attention. The formula is so creamy, rich and delicious that if really makes you feel like it's a special formula to be spared for those rare events in life.

Gwen Stefani for Urban Decay has a lot of reds, and it can be difficult to distinguish one from the other, but Rock Steady holds that berry undertone which instantly makes it unlike anything else.

This shade will suit most complexions, but it will look especially pretty with blonde hair.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: creamy, gloss finish

Overall Rating: 3/5 - a great lipstick but a lot of transfer

You'll like this if: you have platinum blonde hair

Perfect for: night out / weddings / all seasons

Guerlain - La Petite Robe in Poppy Cap

It's obviously tradition to buy cosmetics when you're at the airport. Apart from the obligatory alcohol as soon as you're though security, strolling through the duty free is a necessity. This is usually a trip to Boots because I've most likely forgotten toothbrush/ deodorant/ make-up remover / underwear/ all of the above, but this time I was over to the Guerlain counter.

My lipstick draws do lack Guerlain, mostly because it's still quite hard to find it in the majority of department stores, but whenever I'm faced with it, my love for this brand is rekindled.

This may be too premature, but I'm currently over mattes. It may be the glorious sunshine we're having and the approaching Summer, but I love moisturising shades.

La Petite Robe has been around as a range for a while, but the beautiful packaging, plus the moisture quenching texture is a must-have.

Corals are the quintessential Summer tones, which is why I chose Poppy Cap. This stunning rich tone is all you need for the warmer months to perk up any look.

As well as the great colour, this lipstick smells like fruity sweets, so reapplying is no chore at all.

And once on the lips, you get a beautiful but soft coral and your lips feel great even after you've taken it off.

Colour Intensity: medium

Finish: glossy, moisturising

Overall Rating: 5/5

You'll like this if: you're splashing the cash for a summer lippy

Perfect for: summer / daily wear / wearing with Nars blush in Cactus Flower
