Lipstick Queen in Eden

When I told the Space NK sales advisor that Lipstick Queen used to have a shade called Saint Eden when I saw the newly launched Eden on the display, she was looking at me like I'm a nutcase. After insisting for a while and getting a response of only confused shakes of heads from all the other sales advisors, even I started to doubt myself. But I was right! Saint Eden did exist! Look it up in this blog!

But anyway.

This is about Eden, the new apple red, Phoenix-rising lipstick that to me is very different from its old life.  Twist the tube to be greeted with a gorgeous lightish red with a hint of iridescent flecks.

Despite it being on the Saint side than Sinner, Eden has a lot of colour pay-off. You can keep building for a gorgeous apple red pout that even Snow White would be envious of. Or, gently dab the colour for a subtle rouge.

The texture is moisturising which makes it refreshing among the matte revolution at the moment, and a delightful lipstick for Spring.

Colour Intensity: medium to high

Finish: moisturising, slight gloss

Overall Rating: 4/5

You'll like this if: you want your lips to experience flexibility after a Winter of matte

Perfect for: Summer! If you shy away from deep reds, first dates, casual looks, pretty much everything!

NYX - Soft Matte Lip Cream in Milan

A recent convert into NYX, I have to say that I'm incredibly happy with the brand. Ok, so I might only have two of the infamous lip creams, but still! So far, so good.

Milan is a stunning, captivating pink. If colour intensity puts you off, I still think you should give this a try as it's no the standard hot pink. Milan has more of a subtle warm tone which actually makes it ok to wear outside of nightclubs.

The finish is also great. It dries instantly which means no transfer within seconds of application. Unlike so many other matte lip creams, this is also very wearable.

There's not much to say apart from that I adore this lip cream.

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: matte - a dreamy soufflé when you apply it

Overall Rating: 5/5

You'll like this if: you want an affordable, matte lip product

Perfect for: colour you can trust to stay on / evenings out / wearing with a winged eyeliner

Urban Decay - Gwen Stefani Collection in Firebird

It's no real surprise that a lipstick collection created by Gwen Stefani would have so many shades of red. The queen of 90s rock definitely knew how to wear a red lip and soon her scarlet pout became her signature look that we all wanted to emulate.

If you did the whole Gwen Stefani red lip, thin arched eyebrows and peroxide hair back in '03, then no need to worry. Among the crimson, the collection has one stunning violet pink shade called Firebird.

This beautiful pink has a sheen of iridescent blue flecks that create a lovely 3D effect. The colour is unlike anything else I've seen, and the pigment is unparalleled.

Be careful when applying because it does not easily come off. While the rich pigment means it's very long lasting, this lipstick requires quick decision making - if you apply and change your mind, good luck to you!

The finish feels moisturising but you do need to apply a lip pencil as the colour does bleed outside of the Cupid's bow.

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: rich, intense colour with shine

Overall Rating: 2/5 - I love the colour, the brand and the longevity, but you need to scrub hard to get this off you, which isn't for me

You'll like this if: you want a unique violet pink that stays put

Perfect for: nights out / not reapplying for a few hours / with Benefit's Dandelion powder blush

MAC - Cremesheen in Shanghai Spice

I forgot how brilliant MAC lipsticks are! I've had a while of exploring and wearing every other brand in the last few months, that MAC has seemed to be a second thought.

But despite my immense collection of lipsticks, MAC is still the biggest and I've recently fallen in love with them again.

Shanghai Spice has been sitting there unloved for a while, and today I was looking for a demure shade to go with the violet mascara I've been wearing.

It's a beautiful coral nude in the Cremesheen formula that goes on lips like a dream! Unlike the current nudes, this is a warm, summery shade that is ideal for sunny days. The light colour is also perfect for pretty much any make-up look.

Cremesheen is a great MAC formula if you want a creamy, moisturising lipstick. It's not the most long-lasting, but it's fine because reapplying Shanghai Spice feels amazing.

Colour Intensity: medium

Finish: Cremesheen, so moisturising, creamy and glossy

Overall Rating: 4/5

You'll like this if: you like the sound of a coralie nude!

Perfect for: wearing with purple mascara (don't knock it until you try it!), smokey eyes, with a hint of bronzer for a golden goddess look
