Tanya Burr - Afternoon Tea

I'm a little bit late on the bandwagon, but this weekend I went a little crazy and bought my first Tanya Burr Cosmetics. Instead of acting like a normal person and buying one or two pieces to try them out, I bought all eyeshadow sets, two nail polishes and three lip glosses. Not the smartest move considering I don't yet know if they will be my cup of tea, but hey, it's make-up from a YouTube sensation. It must be good.

The first lip gloss that graced my lips was Afternoon Tea. Light but creamy, this peachy-nude lip gloss is an absolute bargain! The colour is very light - you're left with a subtle change to the tone of your lips, but if all you need is to pretty up your look, Afternoon Tea is perfect.

The packaging is also premium for the price, which is great. If Tanya Burr herself wasn't enough to make you buy this, the style of the lipgloss definitely will. Far from the cylindrical tubes, this lipgloss' square edges and gold lid make it far superior than the £5.99 RRP.

Colour Intensity: low

Finish: glossy and creamy

Overall Rating: 3/5, but only because I prefer more colour pay-off

Lipstick Queen - All That Jazz lipstick in Paint The Town

Packed with comforting Jojoba and Ladie's Thistle to prevent moisture loss, Lipstick Queen's All That Jazz lipstick in Paint The Town is a real showstopper!

This glamorous lipstick of delightful burgundy infused with fuchsia pearls is bound to rocket you in the limelight with gloss and colour so powerful, even I was star struck.

Whenever I use this lipstick, I always get reminded of the razzle dazzle of Chicago, which I'm guessing may have been Poppy King's inspiration for the new range. Paint The Town, as well as the other stars of the show, are pure glamour and glitter tucked into a tiny case. Once on the lips, you are left with deep colour infused with pearlescent sheen that makes it look like molten lava.

Perfect for the upcoming party season, I can imagine Paint The Town being a real Winter favourite, but do make sure you invest in a good lip liner. The colour is so strong, it does bleed outside of the Cupid's bow.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: high shine, high moisture, high drama!

Overall Rating: 5/5 - because I'm feeling festive and this is a great party lipstick

Seventeen - Stay Pout lipstick in Rule Breaker

Ah, Seventeen. The make-up brand of my early teens. Memories of double Science, bad dance routines to S Club 7 and glitterific school discos come to mind. Obviously none of these were brought on by the brand, but it was definitely my companion for all of the above.

As I said in my previous post when reviewing Just A Fling, I haven't used Seventeen since I was very young; 14 years young to be precise so it's nice that the two of us are reunited once again.

Rule Breaker is a great little lipstick for Seventeen and I to re-kindle our romance. Dark, sultry and full of punchy shine is what greets you when you first swivel the stick. Once on the lips, Rule Breaker is a gorgeous berry that is an ideal Autumn/Winter colour. The texture is lovely and soft, and the hydrating base has a delicate feel and long lasting colour.

I cannot wait to try a few more bits and pieces!

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: slight shine, moisturising

Overall Rating: 4/5

Rimmel - Kate Moss Collection in 05

One of the most trusted British make-up brands, Rimmel knows good lipstick. Whenever I feel a little strapped for cash, my go-to brand for many years has been this beauty.

05 is a dewy, raspberry pink lipstick in the Kate Moss collection. Slightly deeper than your average day to day pinks, but 05 packs a pretty punch. It glides on your lips enveloping them with a rosey hue that gives great coverage.

I love Rimmel lipsticks because it feels like they have a water base - a bit like when you get one rain drop on your lips and it gives them a slight dewy feel. As well as the hydration, they have great staying power too.

This lipstick has a slight shine, so it gives your lips a 3D effect rather than one matte colour.

Colour Intensity: medium

Finish: slight sheen

Overall Rating: 3/5

Ciate - Olivia Palermo Satin Kiss lipstick in Truffle

My last Ciate lipstick to review! It has been a fun weekend trying the Olivia Palermo nude collection and now that I'm at the end of it, I can officially say I am a Ciate fan!

I knew I couldn't possibly come to a different conclusion with Olivia Palermo being the creative director, but I didn't expect to love it so much.

Truffle is the lightest colour in the range. It's a delicate, traditional peach nude that looks beautiful on fairer skin tones. The texture is very creamy and even once it's off the lips, you can see that it's had a moisturising effect.

I used Lush's Mint Julips lip scrub before applying for a softer, cleaner look and it stayed put for hours.

The packaging is also very cute and I cannot wait for them to fully expand the lipstick range.

Colour Intensity: low

Finish: creamy, dreamy and moisturising

Overall Rating: 5/5

Ciate - Olivia Palermo Satin Kiss lipstick in Cashmere

The queen of high society has created a Ciate make-up range that will make you feel like you're part of the inner circle. If you think of Olivia Palermo's day to day look, it's effortlessly natural, clean and fresh. Big eyes, glowing cheeks and gentle lips. The Cashmere colour in the Ciate lipstick range looks like something straight out of her day to day make-up bag.

Cashmere is a beautiful beige, ideal for a nude lip. Packed away in a slick gold case, the dreamy colour  glides on the lips and envelopes them in a satin soft texture. I used a nude lip liner with this and the colour stayed put even after two Bloody Mary's (a much needed boozy brunch).

It's low on pink tones which means the neutrality of it will suit most skin tones. Amazing!

Colour Intensity: low

Finish: creamy, dreamy and moisturising

Overall Rating: 5/5

Ciate - Olivia Palermo Satin Kiss lipstick in Praline

Ciate (pronounced See-a-tay, I'm only telling you because I had to look it up) have very recently expanded their pretty nail polish range to full cosmetics. From lipsticks to blushers they are officially a make-up force to be reckoned with. Their major strength? Olivia Palermo.

The New Yorker fashionista, socialite and all round cool girl has created a selection that is bound to be making rivals jealous. So much so that I guarantee you will struggle to make a decision on what you want.

Ciate currently have 4 nude lipsticks in the range. Praline is the darkest of the set - a rich caramel brown that would look gorgeous on deeper skin tones. If you tend to go for lighter nudes, this is a perfect way to a warmer look this Winter without overdoing it. The lipstick glides on like a dream - it really feels like satin that lasts for ages.

Finished off with the signature bow on the gold case and stick itself, at £19 this would make a wonderful gift.

Colour Intensity: medium

Finish: creamy, dreamy and moisturising

Overall Rating: 5/5

Sleek - Sheen Lipstick in Liqueur

I don't know if I've just been hiding under a rock for the last couple of years, but until last week I had never ever tried Sleek makeup. For the low price point I genuinely expected the eyeshadow palette I bought to be utterly rubbish, but the pigment was so amazing I haven't stopped talking about it since.

So yesterday I thought I would buy my first Sleek lipstick. The colours were so great that I ended up buying three as I couldn't decide. The first of my Sleek trio is Liqueur. From the Sheen collection, Liqueur is a a soft, nude pink with a lovely glossy finish. I love the colour because I feel the more pinky tone suits my cool skin tone - it seems to add life to my natural look.

I wore this with Lipstick Queen's lip pencil in Barely Nude and it stayed put for hours. It leaves your lips feeling lovely and soft too so it clearly has moisturising power.

The packaging is also great for the price. The feel of it reminds me a little of Nars lipsticks and this collection is actually a great dupe for it.

Colour Intensity: low

Finish: high sheen

Overall Rating: 4/5

Barry M - Matte Lip Paint in Palest Lavender

My very first Barry M lipstick review, which is odd because if I had created a nail polish database instead, this would be my 105th Barry M review.

Palest Lavender 129 is a shade for the future. Incredibly light and with more blue pigments than pink, this lipstick has a real Sci-fi twist to it. Unfortunately, it does not suit me, and you would need an almost white skin tone to suit this colour. I dabbed on a little bit of a bright pink lipstick to warm this up and make me look less like a corpse from The Walking Dead.

For the price, Barry M lipsticks are actually pretty good. If you want adventurous colours without breaking the bank, this is the brand for you.

Palest Lavender is from the matte range, but I'd say it's less matte in texture than any other lipstick out there. For those wanting lip moisturisation, this is the lipstick for you.

To complete your futuristic look, why not try with Nars blush in New Order - a lovely glittery lavender that will go well with this lipstick.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: creamy

Overall Rating: 3/5

Lipstick Queen - 7 Deadly Sins Lip Gloss in Lust

If you're a bit of a prude, this is not the sin for you. Lipstick Queen's Lust lip gloss comes in beautifully decorated packaging with a hint of scandal (which I love) but perhaps not one to be buying your mother.

Lipstick Queen have represented Lust in a blood-red shade. Vibrant and stunning, this lip gloss is made for seduction with the captivating juicy crimson, glossy sheen and hours worth of lip coverage. I only needed a couple of swipes to achieve the lust shade, and even though I'm a good girl through and through, there is something about this colour that makes you feel like you need the attention of everyone in the room.

I wore this with black eyeliner, mascara and a dash of Nars Christopher Kane blusher in Starscape for a healthy flush. It goes really well with Urban Decay's Naked palette too, but this is so rich on its own it really doesn't need anything else.

I'm a huge fan of anything Lipstick Queen produces so perhaps I'm a little bit bias on this one, however, if you want a non-sticky, beautiful red lipgloss, go for Lust. It's a worthwhile investment.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: glossy but not sticky

Overall Rating: 5/5

MAC - Matte lipstick in Candy Yum Yum

JThe only way this lipstick could suit its name any better is if it was actually made out of candies. Bright, vibrant, catchy pink that reminds me a little of big-haired, tanned blondes in 1970's TV shows. And Pat Butcher from Eastenders.

One swipe and my lips are a glorious shade of pink that I think is very difficult to find. Candy Yum Yum may be what is perceived as a traditional pink, but in the lipstick world, this is a rare gem. If you're looking for a bright fuchsia, this is the lipstick for you.

The matte finish gives great coverage too.

Tom Ford lipstick in Flame

From the lipstick King himself comes a lipstick that is bound to reign over all others. If you're looking to be the centre of attention, then this is the make-up weapon for you. One slick of this captivating sunburst red will make others fall at your feet. Ok, so I can't guarantee that, but what I do know is that the moment I wore this, my confidence levels shifted by about 40%.

It may be because Tom Ford's Flame is a "happy" red - that ideal medium between orange and crimson that makes every fibre in your being feel like serotonin has washed over them. At least that's what seems to happen with me. Which doesn't happen very often.

The texture is also mesmerising. Sleek and moisturising, Flame lipstick will leave your lips feeling hydrated, beaming with colour and with a lasting sensation. It's not a lipstick I'd wear everyday - the high price point means it's definitely for special occasions. But that's no bad thing. Tom Ford lipsticks are high quality, high standard and high coverage, and this overpowering shade is only for those with the highest of tastes. So go on, if you need a treat, Flame is make-up royalty.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: slight gloss

Overall Rating: 5/5

MAC - Matte lipstick in Fashion Revival

NOT to be worn when eating meatballs in IKEA. It may sound like an odd statement to start my review on, but believe me, one bite of those delcious meatballs (don't judge me) and my chin had an outline of Fashion Revival that even wet wipes struggled with. That, and the fact that Croydon does not seem to be ready for bright lips just yet.

Ikea aside, I have loved wearing this deep raspberry lipstick. The colour is so beautiful - a rich, deep pink-burgundy that stands out no matter what. With the weather turning frosty, I'm a huge fan of colours that contrast with snow.

Even though it's a Matte lipstick, I'd say the finish is more semi-matte. The texture is not drying or moisturising but gives your lips the perfect balance of movability. Which is a good attribute in life. Especially when eating meatballs.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: semi-matte

Overall Rating: 4/5 - I love a lipstick with lasting power, but if you get this anywhere other than your lips, prepare to live with it for a couple of more hours.

Charlotte Tilbury - Matte Revolution lipstick in Bond Girl

It has been far too long since my last post so I thought I'd come back with a bang. James Bond style bang, and what better way to do that than with a lipstick by the nation's favourite make-up artist, Charlotte Tilbury. It just so happens that the lipstick is also called Bond Girl.

My previous Charlotte Tilbury purchases have always either been online or in sneaky trips to Selfridges in between work meetings. But now Bentalls in Kingston has a brand new concession and its glittering potions and pots were too shiny to resist.

I chose Bond Girl because I thought it would be perfect for Autumn. It's a deep reddish-brown; a colour that will suit almost everyone. If you're too shy for the truly deep shades, then Charlotte Tilbury's Bond Girl is for you. You can still embrace the daring, jewelled Autumnal shades without looking like a goth circa 2004. Win!

As a matte lipstick, the texture is amazing. It still has enough moisture to make your lips feel like satin. I love matte lipsticks but my pet hate is dry lips. This beautiful lipstick is the best of both worlds.

I got this for £23, so it's definitely a luxury purchase, but from the gold case, to the rich colour, to the soft, long-lasting finish, Bond Girl is a kick-ass investment that's the perfect companion.

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: matte

Overall Rating: 5/5
