Nars Audacious in Raquel

If you're too timid to be temped by Nars Audacious more extreme colours, why not start of with Raquel. This petal-soft honey tone is stunning - perfect for adding a touch of colour for everyday, or to accompany a dramatic smokey eye.

The texture is like liquid velvet so it feels amazing. It feels behind full coverage so the colour stays put for a while.

Colour Intensity: medium but with full coverage

Finish: semi matte

NudeStix in Love

Shades do not come more beautiful than Love.  This is a sheer pink that is perfect for an every day romantic look, and boxed up in the NudeStix trademark tin, it is accompanied by a sharpener lid to keep this glossy crayon ready when required.  I like to line the lips first with the stick before applying the full colour, and it goes great with the rosy shades of Urban Decay's Naked 3 palette. Oh, and add Benefit's Hervana blush as they suit together amazingly well.

Colour Intensity: low - sheer pink coverage

Finish: balm-like

Overall Rating: 5/5

Topshop lipstick in Tease

If you want to match your lipstick to your bubblegum, then Topshop's Tease is the lipstick for you.  In recent years, the iconic, high street fashion giant has cultured its make-up range to be a cult favourite. Unlike the other one-hit wonders that launch a range, get the craze and then let it die down, Topshop has hung on to its popularity and new-found reach, and is clinging on with unstoppable force.  Even the most devoted of make-up artists are switching up their colour palettes to contain the modern swatches of the high street chain.  And I'm no different.  Always treating MAC as my one-stop sweet shop of lipsticks, Topshop has become my new addiction.  Amazing colours like Pillow Talk, Innocent and Drive have converted the masses, and Tease is, by far, the girliest colour I have ever owned.  Smooth, silky and full of pigment, it will be the girliest lipstick you own too.

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: creamy texture

Nars - Audacious lipstick in Janet

A rich magenta with powerful staying power.  Out of all the Audacious lipsticks, Janet is probably the most 'fun'.  A gorgeously, bright colour, Janet was clearly created for colour-popping, statement lips.

The bright pink, with a hint of violet lasts all day long.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: semi matte - velvety creamy texture with little shine

Overall Rating: 4/5

MAC - Sparks of Romance

A sparkly matte shade from MAC? I never thought 'sparkles' and 'matte' would ever go together, and yet here stands the most festive lipstick yet! MAC's Sparks of Romance is part of their limited addition  Heirloom Mix collection.

Packed in a glittery case, this classic red lipstick has flecks of gold glitter that brighten the colour and bring it to life.  A must have for any lipstick fan. Oh, and make sure to read a Julia Quinn novel while wearing it.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: matte

Urban Decay - Revolution lipstick in Bang

Bright, bold, sizzling shade!  If there's anything to say about Urban Decay is that they know colour.  From the revolutionary Naked range to its addictive palettes, you can find something for you.  The Revolution lipstick range is no different.  Bang stood out immediately because of its deep orange.  Once on lips, it unleashes a creamy texture that lasts.  Once off, my lips felt very soft.

It does transfer and wipe off easily, but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing - it just means you can easily take it off if you want to switch to another of their gorgeous shades.

It goes great with the Naked 3 palette!

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: creamy and glossy

Overall Rating: 4/5

The Balm - Ima Goodkisser

I'm a newby to The Balm.  I stumbled upon this brand on feelunique.com and was instantly inticed by its cool 1950s vibe and clever names.  It reminds me a little of Benefit, and witty humour never hurt them, so I know The Balm will soon become a cult favourite.

Trawling through all the products, it took me a while to settle on Ima Goodkisser - a flashy pink with a hint of a tingly menthol finish and gorgeous colour.  Tucked in the humorous box lies a silver bullet.  Its shape is similar to Mac, so rest assured it will fit in your make up displays. A cross between a salmon pink and a candy pink with a pearly sheen, Ima Goodkisser is a keeper.

It also goes well with the Smoke Balm eyeshadow pallet.

Colour Intensity: high - full coverage

Finish: creamy, pearlescent

Overall Rating: 4/5

Lipstick Queen - Red Carpet Edit

Just when I thought Lipstick Queen couldn't possibly tempt me with anything else, they do it again.  It seems to be irrelevant that I already own two out of three of these lipsticks, as soon I clasped eyes on this stunning velvet red case, I knew I had to have it.

Inside the signature packaging lie three of Lipstick Queen's most iconic sticks - Saint Red, Red Sinner, and Red Metal.  Each a glorious red but all with a different finish.  The Saints collection contain 10% pigment for understated colour, while The Sinners collection is 90% pigment for an intense, all-day colour.  Meanwhile the Metals are full of pigment as well as an overdose of ultra-fine metallic pearls. To top it off, they are enriched with high levels of antioxidant Vitamin E and Apricot Kernal Oil to nourish and comfort the lips.

A trio you should all try.

Nars - Audacious lipstick in Grace

A perfect, pouty scarlett, Nars' Audacious collection does it again - a colour so bright and brilliant it will leave you wanting another one.  Grace is a daring red.  Slightly pink in its tone, this is a twist to the mainstream crimsons.  I only needed one layer of lipstick to get the perfect result, and the liquid matte texture makes you feel VIP; a true superstar!

This is slightly more matte in its finish than the others I've tried, but it may also be why this colour has lasted so much longer, even after a cup of Starbucks.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: matte

There's nothing tastier than a new Lipstick Queen lip treat, but this newby really takes the biscuit...or should that be cake!?

Nars - Digital World Lip Pencil Coffret

I purchased this Nars gift set recently as it makes the perfect gift.  Inside the frosty case are 5 lip pencils - two with a matte finish and three with a satin texture.  Usually gift sets contain similar colours, but all five colour are completely different...which is why I had to keep it for myself.

All the colours provide a full coverage, but I have to say, the matte ones definitely performed the best.  This definitely makes a great gift for lipstick lovers.

MAC - Up The Amp

I have to admit; this lipstick has been in my draw for a while.  Although I adored its supple violet shade, it felt too daring for me two years ago.  Now? Now, I have a new found love for purple.

Long gone are the days to shy away from this colour.  MAC's Up The Amp is perfect for most skin tones. It has a neutral undertone so it's the ideal mix of red and blue, and it's dreamy, creamy texture will have you hooked.

Colour: very high

Finish: Amplified - booming colour

Overall Rating: 4/5

Nars - Audacious lipstick in Natalie

Natalie is a delicious, sexy pink that looks instantly glamorous.  One swift swipe of this glorious Audacious Nars stick and my lips look not only kissably colourful, but full and pouty.

The texture is semi matte: almost like liquid velvet that envelopes your lips.  I still find it moisturising, but I know there are mixed reviews on this.

Topshop lipstick in Drive

Gorgeous, voluptuous violet!  It has only been in my possession for a short while but I cannot seem to part from it.  The sultry colour glides on like a dream, leaving a trail of the ultimate purple.  Texture is slightly more matte than some of Topshop's lighter colours, but still just as moisturising and packed in the signature black and white case.

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: creamy, less glossy than other Topshop shades

Overall Rating: 5/5

Topshop lipstick in Fast Lane

Tom Ford lipstick in Bruised Plum

I'm a complete sucker for new season colours.  As soon as Autumn's golden leaves start to fall, I'm straight in the stores looking for a darker, more sinister lipstick to keep me warm during the shortening days.

Tom Ford's Bruised Plum is a dark burgandy.  It leaves your lips with a catwalk-ready dark red stain that is right on trend for Winter.

The colour also lasts a while, and the creamy texture will leave your lips incredibly soft.

Colour Intensity: very high - full coverage

Finish: glossy

Overall Rating: 4/5

Nude Stix in Ripe

First time trying Nude Stix and I have to say I'm incredibly impressed.  Wrapped in a carry-case tin with an extra lid that contains a sharpener, this magnificent lip pencil is sure to be one of your favourites.

I chose Ripe as it was the warmest colour.  One sweep of this and my lips look full.  The secret must be that you can use the pencil to outline first before you fill.  Colour stays on all day - I only topped up once. Barely there feel means you never think twice about eating or drinking...or kissing!

Will definitely buy more colours.

Colour Intensity: medium

Finish: slight sheen, but definitely not sticky

Overall Rating: 5/5

Lipstick Queen in Ice Queen

Ice Queen is the new addition by Lipstick Queen and just like all of the other magnificent lipsticks in the range, Ice Queen definitely lives up to its name.  With the Frozen phenomena at the moment, it's great to see it filtering through to the make up world too.

I've used this on its own for a pearlescent effect to the lips, but try it on top of another lipstick too.  It will luminise the colour.

Colour Intensity: barely there

Finish: pearlescent gloss

L'Oreal - Nudes Collection in Julianne's Nude

More of a balm than a lipstick, L'Oreal's Julianne's Nude is great if you want a barely there finish.  However, you're better off buying a balm than spending double the price on this.

Colour Intensity: incredibly low

Finish: glossy, balm-like

Charlotte Tilbury in Hepburn Honey

Whenever I do a strong eye look, I want my lips to take a back seat. It can be difficult to find the right nude to compliment a heavy smokey eye look, as well as a dash of colour.  Hepburn Honey by Charlotte Tilbury is a very neutral nude.  This means it will suit monochrome as well as colour-pop eyeshadows.  The creamy texture and subtle gloss will emphasise the lips without the limelight. Think of it as the drummer of your make-up range.

L'Oreal - Reds Collection in Julianne's Red

I adored this colour immediately as it's a 'happier' red then most others you see.  Swirled with more blue, pink and coral tones, what makes Julianne's Red my red is the bright colour.  It compliments my pale skin and makes it look creamier and healthier than usual.  On top of this, it's a bargain at under £10.  Love love love this!

Colour Intensity: high

Finish: creamy but not glossy.  Colour stays put.

Overall Rating: 5/5

Marc Jacobs in Showstopper

You wouldn't expect anything less from one of the world's most amazing fashion designers.  I found the Marc Jacobs lipstick range to have a great choice of colour, as well as sultry gloss like I've never seen before.

Showstopper is a darker, bolder twist to the conventional, classic red.  The colour looks more burgundy when you twist it up, but once on the lips, it transforms into a red you won't want to part from again.  It has become my new, classic red.

To top it all off, it's packed in a great looking case.  You'll use it constantly just to show it off!

Colour Intensity: very high

Finish: Glossy coverage - you will have to reapply

Overall Rating: 4/5 - loses a point as it leaves a red stain after a while.

MAC - Matte Lipstick in Hearts Aflame

I purchased this delightful lipstick at Heathrow airport treat on the way to Houston.  As part of MAC's Romantic, autumnal collection, I was drawn to the deep red immediately and thought it perfect to compliment the cold weather quickly drawing in.  Hearts Aflame is not a colour for the faint hearted; matte, bold, kiss proof colour best designed for the lipstick wearers craving an impact.  Like all of MAC's legendary Matte collection, this colour doesn't rub off easily...so make your choice before wearing.

Kiko - Kiss Balm in Pink Grapefruit

Kiko has quickly become my go-to for affordable make-up. I go so often, I've pretty much memorised all the products and shades.

When they introduced their own version of the current lip balm trend, I was excited beyond words. Filtering through the colours, I settled on Pink Grapefruit. Candy coloured and glossy, this is an ideal balm.  Texture is similar to Chanel's Rouge Coco range and graces your lips with a light, shimmering colour.  Its only fault is that you have to reapply often.
